Project 2 - Magazine Advertisement

Designing the advertisement for the Sawdust Festival required creativity and an insight into what the Festival itself was all about. I incorporated a recurring green & olive color scheme, the landscape of Laguna Beach, the website's catch phrase ("creatively fun"), and paintbrushes and palettes to really reinforce the idea of creativity. I used the fonts Chalkduster, Copperplate Gothic (bold and light), and Hobo STD. Overall, I think that the ads are a perfect representation of what to expect from the Sawdust Festival. The design is clear, creative, and echoes the color scheme of the Festival's website.

Project 3 - Calendar

To design the calendar for the animal organization, I found aesthetically pleasing images of animals of my choice- the example being a betta fish- and added Fun Facts, coupons relating to the animal for each month, and decorative fonts. For the most part, I kept the fonts simple; the "Fun Facts" and coupon fonts (besides the "20%", which was Stencil STD) are Times New Roman- I simply italicized the title in "Fun Facts" to catch the eye. The headings for the days of the week are Veranda, and each month is in Edwardian Script ITC. Each month's photo was found on a site with no licensing fees.

Project 4 - Menu

For the menu project, we were asked to design a menu that are capable of being easily printed each month, relatively simple and inexpensive, and featuring an attractive section for the "Monthly Special".
For the most part, I kept the layout simple: I decreased the font size of the menu items and, using Paragraph Styles, used a font that would be attractive and eye-catching (Hobo STD for the headings; Times New Roman for the descriptions), and incorporated the deep purple color (using the eye-dropper tool) from the Hollywood Sandwich Shoppe logo into the headings. On the title page, I placed 3 pictures of items similar to those on the

menu (salad, a sandwich [that is larger/attracts more focus, as it is a sandwich shop], and a milkshake) as well as the contact information for the shop.
I think that the overall feel from the menu is simple, relevant, and digestible (no pun intended). There are no confusing page transitions, and the menu properly corresponds with the vibe and theme of the restaurant.
